Whalen to Serve Ten Years in Folsom Penitentiary
William Whalen loses California Supreme Court rehearing bid and must serve a ten year term in Folsom for obtaining money by false pretenses. The case stems from a Sacramento Circuit action in 1906 where he sold stock in a Nevada mining company that proved worthless. His prior four year Missouri sentence related to a copper-mocation near Alpha. The Sacramento Bee noted Whalen’s notoriety as a crafty gold-brick swindler.

Camp of Clifford Making Good in Nye County
The Clifford camp now known as Holona appears to be here to stay with the Broken Hills property recently bonded for 350000 by J C McCormack of Goldfield. Ore shipments average over 200 per ton from the damp and ten feet of ore may yield 300 to 8500 per ton in gold. Opened by a 30 foot shaft, the property has expanded impressively and Helena foresees a rival to Goldfield in the near future. The Windfall mine buyers in Hareka now own Broken Hills.
