Nevada Commission seeks fare cuts on interstate rail travel

The Nevada Public Service Commission moves to lower passenger and dining car charges on Southern Pacific, Western Pacific, and Los Angeles and Salt Lake routes through Nevada. An order to show cause why rates should not drop is issued, with a hearing set in Reno on December 16. The commission cites current 4 to 7 cent per mile fares as unjust and seeks a standard 3.6 cents per mile, aligned with national interstate rates. Meals on dining cars are deemed overpriced compared to hotel dining, suggesting railway dining houses or club meals as alternatives. The order also demands the firms disclose original Nevada property costs and values, plus revenue and expense breakdowns for 1919 and 1920.
