Big Copper Strike At Eureka Croceus Deepens
Officials reveal a major new ore shoot below the 400 foot level at Eureka Croceus with 22 percent copper, 68 ounces silver, 15 1 2 percent lead, and 0.3 ounces gold. The virgin ground bonanza now extends 235 feet, confirming deep rich ore and supporting King and Catlin’s view that deeper deposits can be highly valuable. A following 400-foot level strike in virgin ground yields over 40 ounces silver, 10 percent lead and 0.2 ounces gold, about 300 feet from the bonanza top.

Army Motor Trans Passes Through Eureka
The Motor Transport Corps convoy threading Eureka on Tuesday bears a single change from the Washington start, a blasted 300 foot cliff track in the Alleghenys. The three train sections include engineers units, medical detachments, and the Service Parks Unit. Reveille is at 4 45 AM and fuel and ice cream stops occur with Red Cross hospitality at Eureka. The trip from Salt Lake City faced delays on the Seiberling Cut-off, with a two mile run in ten hours, but the convoy aims to reach San Francisco three days behind schedule, September 5. A Goodyear band joined the caravan at South Bend, entertaining towns along the Lincoln Highway, including Eureka where a Red Cross dance followed a band concert. The expedition, praised by Lieut Col McClure, marks the longest motor train voyage, surpassing a 900 mile previous record.
