The last Nevada Legislature enacted a reduction in recording fees for mining claim certificates. Fees start at fifty cents for a single claim, twenty five cents for each additional claim, plus a 30 cent per 100 words over the first 100 words. Cortes Mines Change Hands Amid New Iowa Syndicate
On April 1 the first payment of 80 000 was made by Des Iowa capitalists for the Joba group of 16 mining claims in Kareka County Cortes. An Iowa bond lease backs the property with plans to place a moderate work force in. The Rossi group joins the Cortex mine in the south. One tunnel runs above feet long yielding about 200 feet depth. A vein two feet wide has opened on the Rossi with ore worth from 150 to several hundred tons, mainly silver. Lead arsenic and antimony are present along with gold valued at about 5 dollars per ton.
