Desert Lands to County Favored As Site For Reclamation
A Colorado company with capital of 1 600 000 is surveying lands near the Devil's Gate ranch on the North Fork to build a large rock and cement dam. Six surveyors have worked two weeks aiming to store water in spring to sell to lower Humboldt ranches. Government experts once marked the gate but left after learning much of the basin is privately owned. If completed, the scheme could irrigate thousands of acres now barren sagebrush, greatly aiding the state.
