Mining Pioneer Edward Clifford Dies at Tonopah
Edward Clifford, owner of the second Tonopah claim and a famed Nevada mining pioneer, died in a Reno hospital after a two day illness. Funeral services will be held at the Catholic church in Tonopah, with burial there. Clifford helped establish Tonopah mining, owned rich Esmeralda and Nye County claims, and the town of Clifford in Nye County is named for him. He left four daughters and four sons, and his wife had died years earlier.
