Stockmen Seek Federal Control of Western Domains

Salt Lake Tribune reports western livestockmen plan July 21 meeting in Salt Lake to push national legislation for federal control of unappropriated public domain in western states. They seek a leasing system to prevent overstocking, protect feed, and enable industry expansion. Arizona Cattlegrowers Association launched the move, joined by national and regional livestock and woolgrowers groups aiming for immediate congressional action.

Poisoned Wheat for Squirrels Distributed Statewide

The biological survey of the Department of Agriculture has prepared twenty tons of poisoned wheat to combat squirrels and is distributing it through the State Rabies Commission from Elko and Reno offices. Demand is high as blanks are mailed to post offices in infested areas for ordering. The grain, sold at five cents per pound, comes in 10 50 and 4 pound containers and requires a filled form before shipment.

Notice warns all Eureka County residents against out of season game or fishing and fishing without a license. Deputy Fish and Game Warren enforces the act and prosecutes violations. Martin Mahoney, Deputy Warden, states no favoritism in enforcement.
