Salt Lake City report says Utah mines and smelters could shut down unless about a 20 percent cut in the cost of living is achieved. A committee of metal mine operators issued a circular to Utah merchants citing high prices for supplies and necessaries despite copper and lead price declines since the armistice.

Miners to Be Reimbursed Under New War Claims Act

Senator Henderson reports Congress passed a bill reimbursing miners of manganese tungsten pyrite and chrome for wartime supplies to the Government. Claims must be filed within three months after passage, no later than June 2 1919, with the Secretary of the Interior. James B Royce, Carson Indian school superintendent, died of pneumonia after influenza at age 39.

Death of Former Eureka Miner Bob Stewart

Tonopah correspondent of the Reno Gazette reports Bob Stewart died Wednesday in San Diego at age 80. He helped spur the Tonopah rush by transporting ore samples from Mount Tonopah after learning of the strike. Stewart mined and traveled Nevada mining districts and served as Esmeralda County sheriff from 1888 to 1890. He moved through White Pine Pioche Eureka Bodie Hawthorne and worked as teamster and freighter before public office.
