Eureka County Chamber Announces Ballot Details and New Members

The Eureka County Chamber of Commerce announces ballots mailed Tuesday April 5th for the upcoming election with member names, voting instructions, and eligibility rules. Memberships extend to April 2nd for voting rights. about 125 names on the roster. Also invites inquiries on mining properties and lists several new members joined in the past week.

Ruby Hill Co Suspends Operations

Howard D. Smith, vice president of Ruby Hill Development Company, announced in Eureke that operations on Ruby Hill were suspended for the present. The firm has begun selling off supplies, but signals suggest the project at the Richmond-Eureka mines may be resumed after a management reorganization.

Cyanide Testing Plant Being Erected at Adams Hill District

Hugh Leonard, returning from Reno, has bought a small ore reducing plant at Eu reka to test gold and silver ores in Adams Hill. The setup, a one ton per day sampling unit, will precede a cyanide milling plant pending process confirmation. Cyanide tanks are in place and remaining equipment arrived by last night’s train. A meeting of Eureka Post No. 20, American Legion, is scheduled for Saturday evening, April 2, at 7 o'clock at the Croesus building to handle a few business matters.

Catholic Church Property to Undergo Major Renovation

Father P. J. Kennedy arrived from Austin to oversee a renewal of the Eureka Catholic church and rectory. The plan includes varnishing, decorating, exterior pointing, woodwork painting, and fence repairs, with the Altar Society approving funds through donations from parishioners.

Senior Dance Set for April 15 at New Pavilion

The Senior class announced a Friday night dance on April 15 in the new pavilion. Both high and grammar schools closed Friday for a week of Spring vacation promised for weeks, as students expect real spring weather. Austin theatrical talent abandons Eureka visit

The Young Folks' Club in Austin staged St Patrick's Day entertainment for a Catholic church fundraiser and planned to repeat the show in Eureka. After word of a Eureka cantata this Saturday, the Austin visit was canceled, though the troupe may still take the full party and equipment to Eureka next Saturday for a joint performance.

Hospital plan to buy Colonnade Hotel in Eureka

The Diamond View Hospital Association won an option to purchase the Colonnade Hotel in Eureka for remodeling into a hospital. Officials say buying saves 20 to 25 thousand dollars versus new construction and will fund the project by selling stock at 10 dollars a share through the Farmers & Merchants National Bank or directors. Bebe Daniels, the actress, was jailed 10 days for speeding in Santa Ana after a jury conviction, with a 10 day stay of execution granted and bail set at 100 dollars.

Boy dragged to death by cow at Reno area farm

A young boy, Louis Menante, about y years old, was dragged to death by a cow on his parents farm near Reno on Tuesday. He had been leading the cow when it became frightened and became entangled in the rope, dying before help could arrive.

Governor Boyle vetoes six more legislative measures

Carson City reports Governor Boyle vetoed six more bills, bringing the total disapproved since adjournment to ten. Vetoed were Senate bill 6 and Assembly bill 203 on highways and plates funding, a county bounty for noxious animals, Assembly bill 46 on collecting histories manuscripts, Senate bill 77 on highway contractor bonds, plus previously vetoed Assembly bill 63 and Senate bill 98, Assembly bill 256, and Assembly bill 29. Also notes a lead price advance in New York to 4.26 cents.

Express Service Ends In Eureka April 10

Parcel Post shipments into Eureka are reducing traffic for the railway company. Due to non productive traffic the Motor Car service will discontinue starting April 10. It is urged that Eureka residents support efforts to restore daily express service.
