Jim Jeffries and Party in Eugene Again

Champion Jim Jeffries and party arrive in Eugene after a mountain trip, rest before tonight’s train to Los Angeles. Jeffries in good health, weighs nearly 20 pounds lighter and claims sharp form for a planned boxing return. Deer count reaches 21 for the party. Jeffries takes his share with one cougar killed and two wounded. The group includes Mrs. Jeffries and several companions from Los Angeles New York and San Francisco.

Oil Tank Cars Arrive at S P Division Storage Plant

Two tank cars of oil arrived this week and were pumped into the large storage facility. More cars are expected in days as both tanks near capacity. Local notes report farm sale to Daniel Casey of Idaho for 7500 including stock and implements, with possession pending.

Increase in Attendance at the University Opens 1906 Term

From Friday's Guard the University of Oregon reports a surge in applicants and expected record attendance for the 1906-07 term. Entrance exams in English will be held next week, classes start October 1, and renovations plus new facilities have begun including a new library building and extended heating and sewer work. Athletics head Hugo Bezdek anticipates a strong season and many returnees from last year.

Timber land sale ties Linn and Marion counties to Curtis Lumber

Albany Oregon September 20 Five thousand two hundred acres of timber land held by the Charles A Street Lumber Company were sold to Curtis Lumber Company for 106 300. The tract spans Linn and Marion counties along the North Santiam river Breitenbush river and French creek with some parcels in the Detroit forest fire zone. Portions burned will be logged off in the next two seasons to preserve remaining timber.

Whitlock and Jarrett Married at Humphrey Memorial

Miss Sophia Jarrett and Arthur Whitlock, both of Lane County, were married at Humphrey Memorial M. E. parish on the Rockwell site. Chas Bowman is expanding business with a provision store at Nesho yard and a brisk land office operation.

Large Enrollment At O A C Hits Record Numbers

Corvallis Oregon September 21 enrollment at Oregon Agricultural College opened early and showed the largest two day total in its history with 498 students registered and still growing. The figure marks a significant rise over last year and suggests final enrollment could exceed 900. Four new professors and assistants have joined the faculty to accommodate the growth.

Benjamin Lee Has Leg Amputated in Lorane

Dr. W W Oglesby and Dr Job performed the right leg amputation on Benjamin Lee of Lorane for senile gangrene in Cottage Grove. The 73 year old man is resting easily and expected to recover from the operation. Two years earlier his left leg was amputated for the same trouble.
