Alvaro Hawley Hubbard longtime Cottage Grove resident and pioneer died at the family home on Seventh Street after a period of dropsy. Born May 7 18 9 in Alleghany County New York he crossed to Oregon in 1853 settling in Roseburg where he married Susan E Crenshaw October 28 1865. The couple moved to Cottage Grove November 28 1872 and had ten children nine living. A service was held at the home Thursday at 10 by Rev Wallace and burial followed in Rumbaugh Cemetery.

Two young men assaulted Officer Bonney during transport and were fined after pleading guilty.
