The steamer Harald reports a West Indian hurricane hitting Rustan Tela Atilla El Provence and Colorado in Honduras on October 12. Many ships wrecked and fruit plantations damaged with losses over a million dollars. A tidal wave swept all before it.

Ex-Senator Burton Begins Six Month Jail Sentence

Ex United States Senator Burton surrendered to the U S marshal in St Louis to serve a six month term in Iron county jail Ironton Missouri accompanied by his wife and niece who will reside there during imprisonment. Burton was convicted of receiving pay for services to private individuals while a United States senator. federal court imposed the sentence and the supreme court denied a rehearing.

Local option decision at Salem in saloon case

Salem October 10 That cities have no power to enact charters conflicting with local option law was the decision rendered to Circuit Judge George H Burnett in the Coquito saloon case tried in Coos county. This defeats the saloon and if affirmed by the supreme court it will destroy the liquor interests last hope to circumvent local option law.

Cottage Grove Oregon voters approved a charter amendment enabling saloons by three votes in a Saturday city election. The outcome hinges on a Supreme Court ruling on whether local option is a criminal law. If reversed, another city election would be needed to grant saloon licenses.

The last will of Conrad Widmer who died August 25 1906 at his home west of Eugene was admitted to probate. Executed August 10 1902 in the presence of J J Walton and N E K Markley. Debts to be paid. Son George C to receive 260 for staying home and helping farm. Remainder to be divided equally among Joseph M George C Margaret and Gertrude. Joseph and George named executors. Property valued at about 8000.

Delia G Tibbetts and Harry G Keeney wed at noon today at the Tibbetts home near Talent. Rev W L Melsinger of Ashland officiated with relatives in attendance. The ceremony was followed by celebratory festivities for the newly married couple.

Ward Seeks Divorce Over Alleged Cruelty and Shirt Incident

L. A. Ward petitions the circuit court for divorce from Eva B. Ward citing curses abuses and neglect. He says two years ago in a fit of rage she tore his shirt off after years of alleged cruelty and separation behavior. The couple married in Portland in 1882 and lived in Lane County. Ada Surcamp wife of Frederick Surcamp died at Walton October 20 1906 of tuberculosis leaving her husband and seven children.
