Lineman Horace Westrook of Eugene was injured yesterday in Portland when he fell from a telephone pole. He broke one wrist and badly hurt one hip but is out of danger and resting at Good Samaritan hospital.
Beehive grocery at West Eighth and Charnelton, bought by Rev. H A Green who left the Baptist pastorate to run it, has been closed by the sheriff at Portland creditors request. Hope for quick settlement. A Thanksgiving basket social at Bethel school house funds a large school bell. everyone invited.
Chicago workers ratified a settlement ending a fourteen day street car strike that paralyzed transit. A board of arbitration will address wages within ten days, with eight hour shifts and 15 hour maximum watch. Reinstatement rules and mediation agreements with Meyer Harrison and an aldermanic committee aim to protect workers unfairly treated.
The Varsity held its final practice of the season this afternoon. Several players are bruised from Saturday’s game but expected to be ready for the Thanksgiving confrontation with MAAC. La Tourette suffers a shoulder injury but not expected to greatly hamper him.
