Prize-Winner Angora Goat Breeds Improved by Buck Purchase
Al Montgomery near the side post office thirty miles from Kavelle to the McKenzie plans to enhance his strong Angora band by buying a first-class Angora buck. The four-year-old rival won first prize at St Louis and Portland expo, where Montgomery bought him for 10. The region, timberless for decades after a forest fire, sprouts brush and supports hardy goats able to defend against coyotes and wild animals. Goats reliably return to their sleeping place and the hair sells for about five to six cents a pound, with Montgomery retaining the best pure bred stock when selling off inferior animals.
