New York Starts Gold Importation Movement

New York on July 7 reports the gold importation movement of 1910 began with Lazard Freres engaging 1,750,000 in gold bars in London for import to the United States. Imports were forecasted by demands from New York institutions as western banks seek funds to finance new purchases in the West. Local holders have recently sold large American securities abroad and now use these credits to strengthen their position by importing gold.
