Special to Daily Guard from Lowell August 2 fire started from Hills Bros donkey engine and spread to the old Winberry barn causing damage. Lyons barn burned with three and one half tons of hay and some timber logging effects. Fire now under control. Roads and station sites planned along river to Lowell Grant Ryland Hyland lands. Preaching and Dancing at Krebs Hop Yards

The Krebs hop yards near Independence invite evangelists to services and dances for pickers beginning September 5. Methodist B D Ellsworth and Baptist W S Hoffman plan outdoor sermons and indoor dances on rainy nights with a marriage koreau feature. Steam Shovel Sent to California for Siskiyou Slide

The steam shovel used at the railroad gravel pit across the river was ordered north to clear a major landslide near Dunsmuir. The slide is the largest in the Siskiyous in years and may take weeks to remove. another shovel from Portland will arrive tonight to substitute.northbound trains delayed. temporary track expected as work resumes once the new machine is set up.

Brick supply and water works digging progress noted

Plenty of first class brick on hand for retail trade at the yards near the Allen cannery. The Willamette Valley Co started digging new wells for the water works on ground purchased from the Dan Land Co across the river from the pumping plant. English Hop Acreage Largely Reduced

A London cable received by Isaac Pinens and Sona of Tacoma reports England’s hop acreage for the year down 2245 acres from last year. Total hops now planted in England amount to 46,725 acres, the smallest in a quarter century. The crop suffered from lice this season, and yields may fall below prior low estimates.

Barn Fire Destroys Wilhelm's New Hay Barn

J M Wilhelm from Creswell reports a small hay barn on his farm burned down after attempting to burn a yellow jackets nest with kerosene. A straw stack spread the blaze beyond control, destroying the barn that cost about 80 dollars to build.
