Extension of railroad may mean smelter
The Nation extension up the Willamette could open a mining district equal to Blue River or Bohemia and enable a smelter with three developments. Gold bearing ore is reported in the Middle Fork by Dr Christie and associates. Local miners expect more strikes. a smelter would ease freight costs for Lane county mines and spur rail connections through McKenzie and Cottage Grove toward California, enhancing a Eugene area center.
