Scripps wire reports a bold assault on a girl near Aurora with two teens in a buggy. A strange man dragged one from the vehicle before escaping, prompting alarm and a description that could aid capture.
Lon Addington and his wife with their baby were traveling toward Eugene when a freight train forced a halt below Goshen. Mrs Addington left the buggy with the child, Mr Addington tried to steady the horse and stay aboard but was thrown out. The frightened horse bolted toward Dexter but was caught by Vic Berkshire about three miles away. The horse, tired of the run, trotted quietly after being overtaken.
The new opera house block will host Alf Walker’s cafe and restaurant next to the main entrance. The Register office moves into the north room, with a millinery store likely in the middle room. Upstairs offices are sought after, and the lodge room will attract orders relocating from current quarters.
Marie Ollschlager seeks guardianship of Henry Ollschlager the Salem capitalist now in the asylum. The alleged heirs led by George C J M Margaret M and Gertrude DPD Widmer contest the petition and accuse Marie of not being his wife but a housekeeper. A dispute over custody of a large Marion county property holdings follows as heirs mobilize.
Cottage Grove Aug 12 M F Warner of Eugene with J D Hurd capitalist from Oro Grande Cal left on the Oregon & Southeastern for Bohemia to pick a site for a smelter to aid local mines. The camp’s success hinges on this development and many townsfolk joined Sunday excursion to Bow river for trout and ride slated trips each Sunday.
Mrs Anna Hodson by attorney C M Kiesinger files in circuit court for divorce from James B Hodson. The couple wed in Prineville Oregon on May 15 1901. She says Hodson deserted them August 31 1901 and has lived apart and neglected support for her and Roy Harold Hodson, the minor child.
Portland August 12. The Krog Jorg epsen rifles provided by the Federal government for the Oregon National Guard arrived in Portland yesterday. The shipment consisted of 117 cases of arms and will be sent to Eugene companies in a day or so for arrival.
Junction City Oregon August 12 at Milton Robinson home five Robinson brothers plus their wives and children and many friends gathered to share stories of childhood days. The five brothers weigh 4 pounds total with ages 47 years youngest 641 heaviest 22 pounds. George crossed the plains in 1849 the others to 1802 and S. Over 1 years since their last meeting a special effort arranged the reunion. Other pioneers present included William Calvert Rev J W Craig Hynson Smyth G W Tornbow Martha Smyth and the brothers Milton Samuel V James A William and George D.
Lane county warehousemen comply with a new licensing law by filing bonds with the county court for customer protection. Four firms have completed security. one, Cottage Grove millman, has requested blanks to file. Bonds are based on last year’s business, with Wilhelm & Sons at 100,000. Hagene Mill & Elevator Co. 5,000. Washburne & Sons 6,000. Bushnell & Son 2,000.
A self explanatory letter from Eugene Oregon dated August 10 notes that George Metzger of Gresham named his son Lewis Clark Metzger after the explorers. It also records that the writer Lewis Clark Gaylord was born July 10, 1850 and has passed his 53rd birthday.
Wm Barnett of Creswell and Mrs Eliza Delp of Goshen were married at Creswell Aug 6 by Rev F B Neff in a small ceremony with close friends present. They will reside on Barnett's farm east of Creswell as The Guard sends congratulations.
The Vincent-Schwering party, commencing Sunday from Eugene to the Hazel Dell mountains, broke a wagon wheel after 20 miles. They halted to fetch a new wheel from town and expect to resume their journey today.
Anthony White Laughlin known as Grandpa Laughlin of Lane county died suddenly in Hutte Montana on Saturday morning. Suspected poisoning noted as cause. he deeded his property worth 10000 to Mire Lillian Hare two years earlier for care. Hare arranged funeral and coffin purchase. no doctor or friends present. detectives attended the funeral. Laughlin was an Indian War veteran with Oregon volunteers and had recently received 212 pension share.
The regular examination for teachers certificates began in the circuit court room with Superintendent W M Miller and assistants W G Martin and Miss Nettie Krees. Miller said the current class is the largest since he became county superintendent. Seventy two seek county and state papers, with women outnumbering men two to one. Exams close Saturday and recall public in several days.
Farrow and Company real estate dealers display two six foot oat stalks at their office opposite the board office. One head measures two inches long and was grown by Wm. Hlanton south of Eugene. Sample stalks promise a fine showing at upcoming district and state fairs.
Eugene correspondent defends Colonel George U O Yoran against Roseburg militia claims. Guardsmen praise his leadership and insist he acted selflessly in selecting Roseburg for encampment. Officers argue separate battalion encampments yield greater drill value than a single, statewide camp.

A Washington dispatch says C. H. Varney has resigned as postmaster of Crow Lanecounty Oregon, and C. Sturtevant, who runs a store at Crow, is appointed to succeed him. Varney served well and is deeply regretful at leaving.
