The McKenzie A Game Paradise
Sherman Powell writes in Sunset Magazine that the McKenzie south fork is an excellent game reserve for deer with strong elk and bear prospects nearby. He recalls watching thirteen elk up close and notes summer berries, a great trout stream, and timber that threatens to become lumber. He praises Oregon’s deer laws and notes deer decline due to mountain lions and Warm Springs Indians, who hunt and process skins for sale, while settlers complicate illegal sales. The Cascades remain a premier deer country for years.
