State Land Commissioner S. G. Hopkins writes that no further lands under French Creek segregation will be relinquished now. He notes the July state land board meeting may decide to restore all or part of the lands, but a firm decision before July 1 is unlikely.
Forest notes discuss potash inquiries from government officials and the amount in wood ashes from sawmills across national forests. The piece also covers chestnut blight losses, disease resistance from crossbreeding, predatory livestock losses on western ranges, and local civic items including mayoral and council nominations and early city hall improvements in Encampment.
Hill Howles and two other prisoners Bush and Brown attempted a jail delivery at Rawlins Saturday night. Howles struck the jailer with an iron bar, and doctors report there is no hope for the jailer's recovery. The trio were attempting to release the inmates.
The contract for improvements to the En campment city hall was awarded to H. E. Ball for the sum of $1.
Several more automobiles have been brought into the Encampment valley this week. A large crowd went to Rawlins last Saturday after new cars. J. A. Reed Amos Wilcox and James G. Dettinger bought Chevrolet cars. John C. Peryam brought in a Ford. Several more cars are contracted for and will be delivered as soon as they can be secured. Owing to demand only a limited number remain available.
Governor Kendrick orders State Engineer True to survey the North Park reservoir site and appropriate water for lands along the North Platte in Carbon county near Encampment Saratoga Rawlins. Rev McCoy to conduct the survey in summer. Officials caution construction not immediate but aim to fix capacity and costs for future canal projects and may pause 320 acre homestead filings in Encampment valley.
Walcott residents attended funerals and dances in Rawlins and Walcott last week. Notable travelers include Wm. Stewart and Supt. Austin en route via Encampment. A large crowd attended the sheep company dance at the new shear ing pens with free lunch. Wells and builders plan new homes as the town sees growth.
