Elk May Die of Starvation in Wyoming
The Jacksons Hole Courier estimates Wyoming may lose 16 percent of its 50 000 elk due to a prolonged winter. Government ranch feed is exhausted and most elk have moved to hills. Loss on feed grounds and nearby areas is 200 to 1 000 head, mostly calves. Calves surviving this winter seem unlikely. Total loss may reach 5 000 to 5 500. Miss Alice Boyd returned to Beaver Creek school after a week at home.
