Excavation plans for Segontium Roman fort in Wales
The Segontium Roman fortress near Carnarvon in Gwynedd, Wales, may be excavated if a £10,000 fund is raised. The site, key to North Wales Roman road networks, could yield insights into inter Roman and early post Roman Britain and attract scholars and visitors as work spans two or more years. The plan involves local land purchases, expert supervision under Prof. Bowanquet, and possible museum storage of finds at Carnarvon or the National Museum of Wales, with support from the Prince of Wales and archaeological societies.
