Prohibition quarrel fractures county papers and party

The Rev Garry criticized Emmons county newspapers for allegedly harming the Republican party over prohibition. He praised rival papers and mocked editors for not supplying prohibition tickets while condemning anti pro tickets. Garry’s zeal is noted as misguided by opponents in a heated talk after last Friday’s meeting.

North Dakota Leads GOP Sweep in Prohibition Era Vote

North Dakota and the Dakotas show strong Republican gains with large majorities for governor and state ticket. Emmons County records a tight race against prohibition, while South Dakota approves prohibition by six to seven thousand, Washington Territory votes against it by eight thousand, and Montana's governor and legislature remain close. Precinct results highlight local support for Hollembsek, Winchester, and Streeter, with scattered anti prohibition sentiment in a few townships.

In the Third District the county commissioners meet tomorrow to canvass the votes and next Monday in regular session. The main business will be selecting a successor to Commissioner Child, with Henry van Beek favored and expected to secure broad support. Jobo Kurtz reports wheat at twenty six bushels per acre.

Boy Injured By Powder Fire Experiment

Master Roy Yeater suffered facial burns when a shotgun cartridge filled with powder exploded after he tipped it and lit it last Saturday. The cartridge flashed upright and burned near his eye but the injuries were later judged to be only slight.

Judge Robert Allison of Steele delivered a strong prohibition lecture at Williamsport last Friday evening. He praised some but criticized Hollembaek and others as a sly, political crowd. The Williamsport probibs reportedly got into the racket more than once.

Festival at Albert Barnes Church in Glencoe

An October 11 evening festival at Albert Barnes Presbyterian Church Glencoe promises lively church entertainment. The last supper raised 35 dollars for Father Sloan who traveled east and returned with furnishings valued at 260 dollars. He added 225 dollars from caring friends. Mare East visited Hampton to the county seat last week. Johann and Ave arrived home near Winchester.
