Corporal Glenn Turner describes climbs near Aix and Chambotte plus the Abbaye de Hautecombe visit. He notes Mont Blanc visibility, a cog railway, and scenic bike routes 35 kilometers long. Turner also visits Lyon and Lyon's Pont Wilson opened in July with American soldiers present.

Word reached Mrs. Emil Hardt that a sister’s child died at the family home in Great Falls Montana.
Pete Roehrich died at his home near Strasburg from influenza. His wife Mrs Roehrich, formerly Katie Meier of Linton, and their three children survive. Funeral held at Strasburg. Also John A. Van der Vorste of Westfield died at home on Sunday and was buried Monday from influenza. He leaves his wife and three children. Our sympathy to the family.
Mrs. N P Nelson died Saturday afternoon at her Linton home after influenza. She leaves seven children, three serving in France. She was the sister of the late Herman Backhaus of the city.
Miss Josephine Baker daughter of Mr and Mrs Wesley Baker pioneers of Emmons county died Monday afternoon in a Bismarck hospital aged 27. Born on the Baker ranch at Livona she remained in Emmons county and Bismarck most of her life and was part of one of central North Dakota’s oldest families. Her parents, ranchers since territorial days, moved from Livona to Bismarck after selling their holdings amid frontier Indian attacks.
Miss Lorette Odette long time head milliner at Webb Bros. department store in Bismarck died after more than a week of illness and pneumonia. She was a well known figure in the Capital City and a cousin of Mrs. E. H. Smith, who has visited here several times.
Laura Sandwick died at her parents home after a long influenza battle. On Tuesday another child also died and was buried Wednesday afternoon.
Miss Laura Marschall died at her home in Linton on Wednesday evening after contracting influenza. She was the daughter of Mrs. Nelson who passed away last Saturday. The funeral was held Tuesday.
Carre daughter of wire and Mrs. Alex Juacoonmw of Giepcoe cmos county died in kollock Wednesday evening from influenza followed by an attack of heart trouble. She had been sick about a week and appeared to be recovering when complications worsened. Her parents arrived Saturday evening and a nurse was brought from Bismarck. Despite medical effort to halt her decline, she died. Deceased was known in Pollock for teaching school there for several terms and was popular with the younger set. Her body was shipped to Glencoe Thursday morning last week.
Mrs Nellie Willard daughter of W W L Bal er died at the home of her father in Pollock on Tuesday.
Edith Sophia Seeley born March 41 1006 near Little Beaver county died November 3 1918 at her Linton home age 29 after influenza brought pneumonia. She married William Tough in 1910 and left four children Margaret Earl Jean Nyla. Survived by husband children parents Mr and Mrs A S Seeley sister Mrs Herbert Liversage brother Curtis Seeley in France. Funeral held at home Tuesday morning with C Seeley and Mr Butler in attendance.
Hazel Haggard of Linton North Dakota died at her home on October 1 after battling influenza then pneumonia. Born near Murexa May 5, she moved to Linton with her parents nine years ago and grew to womanhood there. She taught in North Dakota and helped at the Haggard ranch west of Linton before falling ill. Funeral was held at the home and she was buried in Linton cemetery. The community extends sympathy to her family.
A YMCA worker explains the United War Work Campaign shows its value beyond comfort. He recalls a wounded lieutenant who received a cigarette and chocolate, and later sent word that the YMCA helped save his life at a base hospital.
A woman who lived at Huron S D visited her father before moving to Missouri. Her husband two children and several siblings survive her death and mourners are asked to remember the family in prayer.
Joseph Bernhardt died at his home nine miles east of Linton Tuesday night after a brief illness from influenza. He was married with a wife and children. Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart church in the country.
Mrs Drew of MeVille Newfoundland has contracted influenza while caring for her daughter at the Jones home. Her husband Mr Drew had left but is recalled and will stay until they can travel back together.
Navy mobilization officer Lt George A Treadwell announces a monthly quota of 130 Class 1 registrants from the September 12 draft for Minnesota North and South Dakota. An unlimited number of deferred class men may enlist by waiving deferral and agreeing to induction.
Mrs Johnson reports a letter from Dr Witherstine of Mayo Clinic denying claims that Dr McPhaden is a legitimate Mayo member. In Emmons county during a terrible influenza outbreak, McPhaden aided patients after prior failed efforts. County officials greeted him, and a Board of Health leader arranged consultations, while a Tribune notice was deemed erroneous.
The Record reports Emmons County selects fifty seven young men for military service in November. Ten will entrain to Camp Dodge Iowa on November 12, with a second group of ten heading to Camp Winnfield Scott California later. Names listed include Fred Petrie Renschley Schall Kandt Volle Rooks Beastrom Roehrich.
The Non-Partisans won a broad state victory with few exceptions. Minnie J. Nielson contends for State Superintendent against N. C. Macdonald, while Harry A. Bronson and Charles J. Fisk linger in a close Supreme Court race. George M. Young defeats L. N. Torson for Congress in the 2nd district, and county results show sheriff and district court clerk races with partial tallies.
