Memorial Day Procession and Exercises Outline

A Memorial Day program details a procession forming on Broadway opposite Linton House and proceeding to Sampson avenue then to the courthouse slope. It lists participants such as Linton Cornet Band Civil War veterans Indian Spanish and Philippine War soldiers and various civic groups. Readings include Lincoln at Gettysburg and songs by church choirs with remarks by George H. McLain and an opening address by the band. A full list of speakers is expected next week.

Former Winona publisher writes from Asheville praising Emmons county

George J. Douglas, former Winona Times publisher now living in Asheville North Carolina, sends a cordial letter to the Record. He recalls loving his old enemy the Record and thanks the paper for sending him copies while in Winthrop Massachusetts. He notes Asheville’s climate and the influx of Southern visitors, mentions health gains, and observes local business limits with many lawyers but little commerce. He asks to remember his old friends.

Humor and a Friendly Feud Behind a North Dakota Newspaper

Emmonsburg Dog Feast Tale From Archambault’s Era

A 19th century reminiscence recalls Archambault’s banquet at the Beaver River bridge site in 1889. Guests including commissioners Gayton Yeater and Child, Clerk Herrick, and locals attended a feast featuring heated talk and a controversial dog dish. Witnesses claim the feast ended with a dog theme and a legendary wagging habit at Emmonsburg bridge.
