Gov ALIN slashes about 121000 from state institutions a third of total causing temporary closings of the state university and two normal schools. He faces praise from taxpayers and a hard legislative split but emerges with a decision that pleases most residents.
Local merchants urge preservation of the university amid calls to shut down the two normal schools and the soldiers home to keep the institution running. Speakers argue against self sacrifice and urge practical support from Grand Forks' affluent business community to sustain the university for a year or two.
The last circular of H. T. Thompson & Co. notes the wool market remains unsatisfactory with prices favors buyers.
