A London Times note explains the green cloth on stage as a safeguard for actors dying in view of audiences. The piece recalls 17th to 19th century practice of nobles gifting rich gowns to actors, who then die with dignity on a green cloth to protect garments.
The issue includes farm ads for home grown seeds and registered stallion sales, price lists for horses and cattle, harness goods, letters to the editor about leap years, condolences to Winchester families, hog farming trends in North Dakota, and analysis of hog price surges, packer shortages, and export demand with data from 1892 and 1893.
Attorney George W. Newton of Bismarck is appointed to codify the state laws and is praised as a capable and courteous lawyer. Gov approves Representative Stroms bill for conciliation courts, a new concept in the U S with success cited in Europe. Herrick and Elly visited friends in Glencoe and Williamsport youths discussed band formation.
