Streeter Writes From Camp Dodge During Thanksgiving

In a 1917 letter from Camp Dodge Iowa Linton residents join units of the 352d Infantry NA. Streeter reports travel delays, housing through the War Recreation Board, and meals as good. He notes officers from Fort Snelling, YMCAs nearby, and plans to keep readers updated on Emmons county men.

Pioneer sisters build emmons county shorthorn empire

Miss Annie L Petrie and her sister homesteaded in Emmons county amid early settlement. They built a ranch from little: teaching for $26 a month, buying relinquishments, founding a store, and becoming postmistress. They sold 49 shorthorn steers at Chicago for an average 236.88 per head, proving grit and business sense. Every Red Cross membership in Emmons county supports soldiers in France.

Ninety-Four Soldiers Found Guilty In Houston Riot Case

Of sixty three black soldiers from the 24th Infantry tried by court martial at Fort Sam Houston Texas, thirteen were hanged on the military reservation, forty one sentenced to life imprisonment, one dishonorable discharge with forfeiture of pay and allowances and two and a half years confinement, three to dishonorable discharge with forfeiture and hard labor, and the rest acquitted.

Francis B. Streeter of Company I, 352d Infantry, writes from Camp Dodge Iowa. He praises the regimental band as excellent and notes the Des Moines sidewalks sidewalks and streetcars. He mentions not seeing much of the city yet and plans to continue the letter in the next issue.

Braddock Red Cross Ships Supplies to Minneapolis

The Braddock branch of the Emmons County Red Cross sent a shipment to Minneapolis on December 6 including 15 sweaters 25 pairs of socks 15 bed shirts 10 pairs of wristlets and 2 mufflers. The chapter is now sewing pajamas and night shirts.
