A Vatican conclave selected Giuseppe Sarto as pope last Tuesday. The former patriarch of Venice, aged sixty eight, is described as scholarly and conservative and will take the name Pius X. He is expected to be a worthy successor to Leo XIII.

Mentions include attorney Lane visiting Hague, telegraph reach to Hazelton, railroad water tank at Linton, and a big cattle train from Braddock. Bank expansion in Hazelton, plowing contracts, homestead proofs, and road work on the N P near Linton are noted.
A baby boy was born Monday morning August 3 1903 to Mr and Mrs B D Fogle of a local family. The mother and child are reported doing well with Dr Welbh in attendance.

Anton Mitzel files a contest against timber-culture entry No. 4763 by Jakob Volk alleging failure to plant and protect ten acres. Hearing set for September 9 and final hearing September 16 at the Bismarck land office. notice published due to service difficulties. Receiver Juan Satterland oversees.
