The U S Food Administration announces guaranteed prices for U S wheat harvested in 1918 and sold before June 1 1919 at 25 specified markets. The program aims to ensure a reasonable profit for farmers even if wartime conditions end or grain supplies from other regions resume.
A Chicago Press Club stunt labels five inch shells with Opie Read, the famed novelist and Chicago Press Club president. The shells are to honor the first submarine encounter on a transport voyage, a joke about curing ills. Opie Read, founder of the Arkansaw Traveler, once secured a railroad pass and cracked sharp about circulation.
A state wide survey will inventory flour and substitutes on hand in North Dakota. It records amounts held by mills merchants and homes, with monthly reports to the Food Administrator. Starting April 15 no sale of flour or sugar without a card, and post April 15 daily limits set.
Under provisions of the selective service law a group for exemption or discharge was formed. A total of 67 716 men were excused from military duty. After a lull in recruiting the navy resumes a broad national push with no cap on volunteers. Recruits will join the Naval Reserve Force and train for roles including apprentice seamen firemen hospital corpsmen cooks bakers machinists carpenters and painters. Great Lakes workstation needs painters and carpenters as part of a major expansion effort led by Lt. George A. Treadwell and Cmdr James D. Willson.

A North Dakota letter urges wheat saving and patriotic sacrifice to aid the war effort. It calls for expanding wheat production, using potatoes to substitute, increasing stock feed, and encouraging each family to keep hens and grow a war garden as part of Pershing's food appeal.
Federal Food Administrator urges a state wide survey of flour and flour substitutes in North Dakota to determine on hand supply for the next four to five months. He cites a six state meeting in Minneapolis and notes a county migrants found twenty car loads could be diverted to need. Citizens asked to report holdings and cooperate to prevent shortages.
Chairman Cameron's approach to raise Linton's quota succeeded with broad consent. Band boys performed to boost enthusiasm as residents filled allotments swiftly. A Broadway tent hosted signers while Cameron and Junge managed the process in under fifteen minutes. Women volunteers and Boy Scouts earned special praise.
Adjutant General G A Fraser acknowledges a Local Board for promptly completing occupational cards and forwarding them to the Provost Marshal General. He notes the board as the first in the state to finish the task and commends their diligent handling.
Miss Leona Mewing of this city wed Lester E. Mills of Aberdeen at the bride’s mother’s home Tuesday at 6 30 pm Rev Buts chat officiated in a small ceremony attended by immediate family. Mrs C H Mewing stood with the bride and Earl Mewing and Earl Atha were best men. The couple will reside with Mrs C H Mewing.
Local Red Cross sums include $20.86 at a Ladies' Aid meeting, $9.50 at the Priscilla Club, and $15 from the Evangelical Mission Society. Contributions also list $5 from Mrs. F J Pietz and $5 from Thos Fergus along with $3 from Cecil E Green and new members Florence Culbertson, Chas Beaver and Cecil E Green.
