Prairie fire devastates Hazelton area and Bauer homestead

Last Friday a severe prairie fire west of Hazelton destroyed the Bauer farm including house, barn, gear, and about 25 to 30 hogs. Despite fire-guards, the wind spread flames across them and the fire halted near the N P track. Bauer, with only a few hundred dollars in insurance, faces an estimated loss of 3500 to 4000 amid community sympathy.
