County plans new Amidon court house addition

A special meeting of the board of county commissioners in Amidon decided to build a new court house, with work expected to begin soon. The report covers other North Dakota items from Minot to Dunn County, including prison escapes, a fatal accident, suffrage inquiries, and flowing wells in the Dunn county region.

River ice breaks up chasing cattle and river danger

J A Stiles visited an old friend Jerry Hart across the river Sunday. J J Huse traveled from Winona after merchandise noting the river was unsafe to cross with a team as ice along the banks broke up. Jack Ramey came from the Carignan and Stiles ranch to brand cattle hauled from across the river and moved them back to the ranch. Frank Fiske has received an offer to be assistant pilot on the US snag boat Mandan, to begin on the Missouri river around early May and may accept.

Hazelton Highlights and Local Moves

Hazelton Gazette items list residents visiting relatives in Bismarck and York Nebraska, shoppers in Hazelton, and social events. Postmaster W. B. Andrus is appointed, Dr. Schucht recovers from appendicitis, and Amelia Appert leaves for Cleveland to manage a home. The Josiah Courtship troupe performed in Braddock with strong local turnout.

L Scroggin. McLachlan Bros. bought Mike Keiser’s auto livery, joining other ventures. Rev. Hammond returned home after a two week state trip. Hazelton home talent play enjoyed with strong crowd. Local clothing peddlers warned as unlicensed, shoddy bargains. Easton and Bar ta attended the play from Kintyre. Batzer guests remodeling their Hazelton home. Siverson visiting Staak family. Marjorie Stank. Ethel Clarke to teach Doehle school starting March 29. Neighbors honored Brown before their move to Montana. Local notes on residents and travel plans

Over forty dollars as their share of the spoils. E. O. Beastrom is able to get around on crutches after a broken leg when his rig overturned weeks ago. Beastrom was in town for a short time Saturday. Peter Farrell, sick all winter, is reported improved and has walked a bit lately. The news will be welcome to his many friends. H. A. Armstrong left yesterday for the Twin Cities to join Mrs. Armstrong and continue homeward. He visited Braddock and will finish the journey via the Soo. Mrs. Armstrong has wintered with her daughter, Mrs. O. M. Garber, in Ashland, Ohio.

Four Escaped Convicts Nabbed in Hartford County

Emmons county men C E Brooks Jake Helfenstein and Carl Grenz captured four penitentiary escapees Sunday near the Hartford schoolhouse after a pursuit along the river. The fugitives Frank Irwin John Robertson Fred Andrews and Jack Wilson were found with a gun and knife but no ammunition. Each convict faced a $75 reward, with Emmons county likely to award about $100 per man.
