J E Crew Dies At Ayrshire

The funeral was held Tuesday at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church with Rev. B. Benn officiating. Burial was in Bilver Lake cemetery. Survivors include a widow and four sons and three daughters. Ruthven Deflamatory Contest Highlights Area Winners

Ruthven saw a strong showing in a deflamatory contest held Tuesday of last week with Cylinder High School two firsts and Emmetsburg High School two seconds. James Brown of Ruthven won the oratorical division and Ellen Newell of Emmetsburg was second. In drama Paul Freeman of Cylinder took first and Mary Carter of Graettinger second. Lester Stokka of Cylinder won the humorous division with Bernice Hughes of Emmetsburg second. Winners advance to the sub district meet. Several locals and visitors were noted from Ruthven, Emmetsburg, Cylinder, Graettinger, and surrounding areas.

Alice Toy in Person at Spencer Theater

Alice Toy, known as Radio Dream Girl, appeared in person at the Spencer theater Tuesday and Wednesday this week. She was a feature attraction at Des Moines during the automobile show, singing daily at the show and on broadcasts. Miss Joy previously sang on the Prince Albert Radio program a year or two ago.

Basket weaving class held at Mrs Diteh home

Delegates gathered Wednesday of last week for a basket weaving session. Thirty members responded to roll call and sixteen baskets were started. The next lesson on tray weaving will be at Mrs Reinders home on April 5. Home Prospect leaders include Mesdames Wening Broadwell Lowe Eckert Stafford and Grethen and Miss Hersom.

Go Getters Club Notes

The Go Getter 4-H club of West Bend township held its February meeting at the homes of Helen B and Mary Beatrice Montag. Thirteen members attended along with leaders. Demonstrations covered Cutting Chicken by the Bloodless Method by Geraldine Gearheart and Packing and Processing Chicken by Ruth Blair. Bernadine Yock spoke on Our Indian Music and Mary Beatrice Montag read A Country Girl's Creed. Vivian Hanson and Elaine Hinton supervised the program and recreation. hostess refreshments were served.

Freedom 4 H Girls to Meet Saturday March 11

The Freedom 4 H club will meet at the home of Mrs. John Galleger with Gertrude Schumaker on Saturday afternoon March 11.
