Outdoor school scene grows at Audubon in Dubuque
In Dubuque Iowa May 25 1913 professor Horchem of the Audubon school started a park life summer school for boys. The project has expanded to include farm work stock raising carpentry horticulture and marketing. Interest remains high as applications exceed capacity. The Dubuque women’s hygienic committee and public school board plan several public playgrounds for the coming summer.

Algona Advance readers learn Judge Quarton, northern Iowa figure, entered his Guernsey cow Grace Yeksa Q into the Marsh contest. Over a year of testing the cow produced 8619.80 pounds of milk and 436.73 pounds of butterfat, averaging 4.1 percent fat. The value of her yearly product, at rates given, totals about 149.19 dollars with net profit around 100.44 dollars after feed costs of 5 dollars. Grace also raised a valuable heifer calf, with several offers at 300 dollars. Judge Quarton asserts dairying pay is solid when cows are well cared for, praising the Guernsey breed. Grace continues producing over 1 pound of butterfat daily after fourteen months of freshening.
