George L. Boyle a former Whittemore resident and son of Mark Boyle is jailed in Chicago on embezzlement charges of 9000 from Drovers National Bank where he worked as teller for six years He was arraigned before a U S Commissioner and bound over to the federal grand jury on 2500 bond Boyle 32 has no children and has not spoken.
The L A Carter general store in Dickens suffered damage from a fire around 6:30 last Thursday morning. An electric motor in the basement is blamed. a telephone office employee reportedly discovered the blaze. Firefighters used chemicals and water to extinguish it, ruining much merchandise. Temporary location set on the west side of T22 bank.
The owner will repair and finish the store building and move in once ready. The loss was partly covered by insurance.
Mrs O F Spies narrowly escaped serious injury last Wednesday afternoon when her car skidded on ice west of the Last Island church and overturned twice. She shut off the motor to prevent a gasoline fire, escaped through a broken window, and walked to the Oscar Suss farm to call for help. The car was badly damaged.
Thieves broke into the offices of Dr J L Powers dentist and Dr W B Gower physician in Pocahontas between noon and six on a Saturday. They forced Dr Gower's door to gain entry then moved to Powers' office through a connecting door and stole morphine tablets and cash from a drawer.
Mr and Mrs Louis Lippold of Graettinger depart Tuesday by car for Florida to spend the winter months.
