Three youths leave for service from Emmetsburg

Three youths V in cent, Bernarda of Emmetsburg, Philip VanDeeer pool of Laurens, and Robert Lee Roy Martinson of Terril departed Emmetsburg Wednesday morning by bus for the induction center in Des Moines. They complete the December traffic. Mrs Mildred Kerber chief clerk of the Selective Service system said.

Mrs Pat Brown Dies at Spencer

Mrs Pat Brown 74 of Ruthven died at Spencer Municipal Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Church Spencer with burial in North Lawn Cemetery. Survived by son Ray Brown of Dickens and four daughters Mrs Albert Gibson and Mrs Keith Edelman of Webb Mrs George Weimer of Spencer and Mrs Victor Alexander of Ankeny. The late Mr Brown ran an implement store at Ruthven for many years. A complete obituary will be published later.

Emmetshire High School Plans Three Concerts

The Emmetshire High School music department will present three concerts in the Hi A auditorium under choral director John De Haan and band director Rob Hey. The series combines vocal and instrumental groups for varied programs with season tickets at $1.50 for all three performances. Depew petitions seek hard surface shortcut to Twin Cities

Residents of Palo Alto county petition the State Highway Commission to pave a Depew route linking U S 18 near Emmetsburg with Highways 3 or 41 via Depew. They cite traffic data from Rodman paving and argue Depew road should extend paving to create a long sought shortcut to the Twin Cities.

A proposed Mallard Curlew school district reorganization advances toward a December 8 election. If approved, Curlew would drop from 16 to about eight sections, Mallard gains land, and Ellington loses half a section while remaining above the minimum.

Last Rites for James R Brown at Graettinger Meade

James Robert Brown born January 22 1871 in Clinton Iowa died after a year long illness. Funeral services were held Thursday November 24 at Immaculate Conception church Graettinger Meade with a solemn requiem mass by Monsignor Mason. Rev Fathers Malloy Dukigg Maynard preached the sermon. Burial in St Jacob's cemetery Graettinger. Martin Funeral home in charge. Honorary pallbearers listed. active pallbearers named. He was the son of John and Jane Brown and lived in Palo Alto county.

Man and officer's crash leads to 30 day sentence

In Peace court, charges led to a 30 day sentence after a collision at Eleventh and Monroe between E. S. El and Officer Lowman. Estimated damage was $400 to each vehicle. The Howards were referenced nearby in the incident.

Dorm Bomb Hoax Identified At South Campus Hall

Early morning alarm in Elm Hall brought Marilyn Thoreson and Carolyn Dillenburg from Creston to a booby trapped box. A note warned of harm only if it was moved, with a clock detonator and tar horn wired to a six volt battery. dormitory staff opened the box and found hidden wiring after about 30 students gathered.
