The Brigham H. Roberts case ends with a 268 to 50 vote to exclude Roberts, Mormon representative-elect from Utah, and to declare his seat vacant under the facts and circumstances presented by the House. The adopted resolution states he did not have or hold a seat.
A train carrying over 1,000 Winchester rifle holders arrived in Frankfort at 8:39 a.m. on July 2. They marched to the state house, stacked arms, and met Gov. Taylor and Adjt. Gen. Curtier who denied knowledge of their purpose. Ex-Secretary Finley urged justice and a people’s will while a resolutions committee drafted demands to the legislature. The group left Frankfort at 4 p.m. after expressing their aims and discharging weapons during delays.
A massive dynamite explosion at the Jersey Central Railroad yards in Ashley, Wilkes Barre vicinity, kills Frank McLaughlin of Mauch Chunk Michael Bird of Ashley and William Buckley of Wilkes Barre and injures several others. A runaway freight train from Mauch Chunk descending a mountain grade loses control, collides with engines, and triggers a blast wrecking cars and damaging nearby structures. Rescue and firefighting follow as residents report broken windows and tremors throughout the area. The incident is part of a broader dispatch including Dawson fire damages, a French influenza wave, a U.S. Senate candidacy note, and a strike response from AndeMkon, Ind.
Henry Warren of Austix Texas reports that his cousin Top West, a locomotive engineer for the Hiteroreanic road, was arrested in San Martin Mexico on murder charges. West, held in communicado without preliminary exam, was moved to Huejotzingo jail. Friends plan to appeal to the United States minister Powell Clayton.
In Columbia Missouri James McBaine was fined 12 for calling Arthur Wade a liar by telephone from two miles away. Wade, at his farm north of Columbia, charged McBaine with burning his property and the quarrel, heard by several telephones users, led to Wade filing a peace disturbance case in Judge James Callaspie's court.
Missouri Supreme Court in division No 2 affirms John F Kennedy a train robber must serve seventeen years in the state penitentiary. Chief Justice James B Gantt writes the opinion overruling defense exceptions and upholding indictments under the 1895 train robbing law. Kennedy had a fair trial and the evidence supports the jury verdict.
The Ways and Means Committee reports on Cooper of Luxus to repeal the 1895 law suspending bonding of goods destined for Mexico. The law aimed to curb smuggling by diverting traffic away from U.S. ports to Mexican ones, but smuggling persists as Mexico has not acted. George Coleman, 38, an employee of Simpson and Cousins elevator, was found wedged feet foremost in a grain chute while loading cars. The accident happened around 10 am while machinery operated, leaving a wife and a four-year-old son. Coleman had joined the firm about five months ago.

An injured former soldier from Marshalltown, Larrison Stevens, who had just left the Town Soldiers' Home after discharge January 24 with one thousand dollars, started toward Chicago on foot. An eastbound Illinois Central train hit him ten miles from the city, killing Stevens, a Wise County native and member of Company F Seventh Iowa Infantry, at about noon. A sister in Chicago, Mrs. Ligsie Shatter, is being notified.

A Cass County farmer, Hage Heeron, says he paid Gus Kuehl a matrimony agent, 150 dollars, to obtain a youthful wife. Heeron was brought to Chicago to meet a supposed bride but was shown a 40 year old widow with three children. Heeron reported the scheme to Inspector Hartnett and said he refused to marry.
Twenty five street car passengers witnessed the drowning of 15 year old Wilson Taylor as he skated on thawing ice near the river bank. He broke through a thin spot where ice had been harvested and sank ten feet deep despite efforts to pull himself out. Lifesaving attempts failed after five minutes of struggling before assistance could reach him.
