Reunion of the 13th Ohio Battery Held in Elyria Hall

The twenty third amosl reunion of the 13th Ohio battery met at G A R hall in Elyria on August 26. Wives and daughters served a banquet as comrades shared a dinner. Twenty veterans answered roll call and resolutions honored three members who died this year. Officers were elected and history of the battery’s Civil War service noted from Corinth to Sherman’s campaigns ending with a 1865 muster out.

Wreck Victim Leaves Hospital

Robert Stahl of Columbus, severely injured in the G and S W wreck of July 19, left the hospital Tuesday morning. His hand was crushed, knee cap split, and from the knees up he had 39 cuts. most required stitching. He will stay at the Andwar until he can travel home.

Marriage Licenses Reported for Albert Brill and Esther Lahr

Albert H Brill 28 of Ireman and Esther L Lahr 20 of Oberlin granted marriage licenses. Juliaa Gyerman 25 a laborer of Lorain and Therena Lidai 19 of Lorain listed as applicants. Hubert C Herrick 8 farmer and Beasie M Snyder 21 of Wellington also noted in records.

Oak Point Victim Leaves Hospital After Accident

Mia Marie Schmenkel, one of three women hurt in the Oak Point Sunday accident, left Lorain hospital for home in Cleveland after a rapid recovery. The least injured, she was among the three treated there. Myre Goert, the most seriously wounded, is recovering and expected to leave for home in two or three weeks.

Ore Bucket Accident Claims Life at Steel Plant Docks

John Novinski aged 35 of Seventh Avenue was struck on the head by an ore bucket while unloading ore from the barge Maida at the steel plant docks. Coroner French ruled the death accidental. he leaves a seven year old daughter.

Trainmaster Romoser resigns from Lorain and Wheeling line

THAINMASTER Trainmaster WH Romoser of the Lorain and Wheeling division resigns effective Tuesday September 1. He is replaced by Mr Barrett of Garret Indiana. Romoser has fifteen years with the line starting as a dispatcher and rising to trainmaster then superintendent before the B and Q takeover. Elyria man Hengartner weds Katherine Corlet in Lorain

Walter Hengartner owner of the Duplex foundry in Elyria and Katherine Corlet of Lorain reportedly married about a month ago. Hengartner is a popular local figure and his wife works at the Lorain post office. The couple plan to establish a home in Elyria soon.

Elyria Public Schools opened with 1534 students, up from 1526 a year ago at the first month. Attendance may reach 1400, seniors number 47 this year versus 67 last year, freshmen about 121, total high school enrollment around 800. Superintendent Comings is pleased and expects a successful year.

Mammoth Engine for Baltimore and Ohio to weigh 380000 pounds

The American Locomotive company to build a colossal 380000 pound locomotive for the Baltimore and Ohio railroad. The engine, designed for freight over mountains, will be nearly twice as heavy as any current engine and aims to be economical. Construction occurs at Schenectady works with completion aimed for the St Louis World’s Fair exhibition.

Boys Arrested For Shooting At Railway Train Near Oberlin

Two boys Emory Stuart and Grover Crocker were arrested in Oberlin on Monday on charges of firing a revolver at a Linke Shore railroad train. Marshal Sherill and Detective Foster made the arrest. They were taken to Elyria for a hearing before Justice Lord at 3 p.m. Tuesday. A bullet pierced the caboose side, narrowly missing a brake man.

Rev Thomson departs Lorain for Berea Ky pastorates

The Rev AE Thomson of First Congregational Lorain leaves Tuesday for Berea Kentucky to accept a pastorate in the associated churches. He preached his last local sermon Sunday to a large audience.
