Fred Gehl former porter at the Hotel Toplift died in Chicago last Tuesday of appendicitis at about 24. He once tried to kill himself in Toledo eighteen months earlier, prompting two men to be arraigned. One rumor blamed a woman he had grown close to in Chicago. the other referenced a quarrel with his sister over a wagon board bill.

A revised transit timetable takes effect Sunday November 1st. Elyria bound trains depart Elyria for Lorain at 6 07 am and every 30 minutes until 10 06 pm with additional runs at 10 40 11 20 12 00 12 40 and 1 20 gos to Gostavion only. Lorain bound cars start 6 05 am and run every 15 30 minutes between 6 05 am and 8 06 am and 4 86 pm and 6 05 pm. From Lorain cars depart at 6 15 am and then every 16 minutes until 10 00 am, then 10 40 11 20 12 00 12 40. The Lorain to Elyria hourly and half-hourly cars run through, with Lorain to South Lorain via 15 and 45 minutes after each hour.
Morning service at 10 includes communion and reception of new members. Twenty two new members approved last Thursday will join today. Evening service at 7 reports from Ohio Mothers congress and Cleveland conferences. All are invited.

Vermilion talks a gas franchise with a $500 forfeiture if Vermilion Gas Company tries to furnish gag within a year. The town shows preference for gas or money over the gag plan, per the Vermilion News.
In a Cleveland theatre car on Friday night Harry Ridgeway defended a young woman from insult by a group of men. He rose, confronted the assailants, and struck one in the jaw before a rough fight ended with Ridgeway prevailing. The conductor had him removed from the car.
A Democratic rally in Elyria drew a large audience amid Republican critics. The debate featured Senator Chamberlain against Mayor Tom Johnson, with Chamberlain poorly defending gains on Cincinnati rail and Cleveland gas franchises. The event underscored the adage fools rush in where angels fear to tread.
The 18:00 o clock Limited on the C and 3 W line was wrecked in Oberlin on Saturday morning. Traveling along West College toward the railroad, the car slid on leaves and derailed after braking. The front end was slightly smashed and several passengers suffered minor injuries.
John Rhinemiller, a leading Huron county farmer, is harvesting the largest pumpkin crop yet in the area. He contracted to supply 13 tons to Elyria Onne ring Co and planted three acres for canning purposes. Estimated yield is about 25 tons, with a price of 2.76 dollars per ton from Fulra cannery, yielding 322.05 dollars per acre.
John Bennett is indicted for murder in the first degree for the October 7 death of his wife at Oberlin. She was found with her body damaged by carbolic acid in the Bolden home where she was visiting. Bennett was arrested in Cleveland. The couple had Ukrainian ties and previous trouble, leading to her departure from Kentucky. Grand jurors listed include Frank Reublin and Charles Sawyer among others.
