Board of Education Holds Executive Sessions and Minor Actions
The city board of education met Monday night and twice went into executive session to discuss matters not for public release. Superintendent Comings noted cases of free textbooks and ordered a study, with plans to buy and loan books. Minor items included needing light in Starr's room, wiring the Sixth Street building for gangs, and muddy sidewalks at new buildings. Supplements readers costing 216.10 were authorized. The truancy officer reported 35 cases investigated in the past month, seven truants with three sent to Lancaster for petit larceny, four minors found working without proper certificates. two in grocery stores and four in shops from Amherst and Grafton have stopped work. A party sailed on the Caronia from New York to Liverpool, including Harvey O. Brannan of Grand Rapids and Alfred Walker and Methias Mawby of Avon.

Auditor flags illegal expense by school board member
City auditor says $150 paid to George Crisp while on the old school board for inspections on the Thirteenth Street building during construction violated the school code prohibiting financial interest by board members. Crisp already received the money and will be asked to repay it to the board.
