A lavish opening night at Elyria’s new opera house drew a representative audience with patrons from the Traction Company and local dignitaries. Critics praised Hopper and Marguerite Clark among others, noting the theater’s safety, modern equipment, and ample seating while promising ongoing quality productions this winter.
Mary I Nary sues Thomas Johnson administrator of Dan Nary estate for 11365.65 in probate court claiming services rendered to Nary on his sick bed, physician services, and funeral costs advanced. The suit notes nursing care from November 1, 1898, to November 1, 1903, as part of the bill.
Fred Gehl an old Elyria resident born in Berlin died Wednesday morning on the fifty fifth anniversary of his birth after several weeks of paralysis. He is survived by a daughter Mrs flood who lived with him and a son in Toledo. Funeral services will be held Friday at the Lutheran church.
At dusk a mob gathered near Fisht Avenue and Broadway after a fight between fish peddlers Livya Vaderman and J Corrigan over a stolen fish. Vaderman, chased by police, was corralled to Duane Street jail on assault charges, while Corrigan was injured.
Judge C G Washburn overruled demurrers in Beal law indictments against Ernest Leammel J H Yokum John Wadsaworto and Vander Hernan. Stroup claimed liquor not stated as medicine. indictments deemed defective then corrected. W H Park in Elyria, age seventy two, gravely ill with bladder trouble. longtime public official and former city clerk mourned by community.
Columbus Ohio Nov 33 The uniform accounting law seeking a common bookkeeping system for all counties and cities faces strong opposition from Ohio county auditors who opened their thirty seventh annual session. They say it increases needless labor and expense for counties.
R. G. Parka was granted a divorce Friday afternoon by Judge G. Washburn from May Parks. Attorney Frank M. Stevens represented Parks, who is a Wellington man. Parka accused his wife of misconduct with another man.
Mrs May Conrod, wife of George Conrod, caused a violent scene at a Lodi Street saloon on Wednesday morning after a lengthy dispute. Conrod filed for divorce, alleging drunken debauchery and threats, with a revolver pointed at him by his wife during the incident. Cartzwyler, the bar-keeper, was briefly jailed but released after it was deemed he did not provoke the assault.
Ina Perrin of Oberlin was adjudged insane by Probate Judge Hinman and committed to a state hospital in Massillon. Formerly a Duluth schoolteacher, thirty, she taught for ten years, organized and overworked herself to a nervous breakdown. Her mind deteriorated, with months of hallucinations claiming her body was dead and decaying.
Mrs. Paskevich, weeping and surrounded by three foreign women with red bandanas, waited at Lake Shore station for her husband who entered New York depot with plans to travel to Elyria. Separated in the crowd, she boarded a train while he was lost in the shuffle, leaving her anxious for his fate as she continues her wait in Elyria.
Boot Nestor argued the city and the O and W traction must resolve the problem of running cars on the East Bridge Street Bridge. He said tracks cannot be removed within thirty days and traffic would halt. the logical solution is to reconstruct and widen the bridge, with strengthening to meet needs.
The Amalgamated Street Railway Men union demands an immediate reply from O and S W Traction on reinstating Motorman W F Kearina. President Pomeroy has said no return, but a favorable response is hoped for after a Friday meeting. Kearina, who says rumors misrepresent events, notes he was laid off for smoking not discharged, and asserts he did not instigate last April’s strike.
