William Brungery files in the court of common pleas on Wednesday claiming ownership of a West Avenue fronting lot in Carlisle township. He states he built a private sewer along the north side of the lot that empties into Black River and seeks legal remedy.
D W Baker a second ward city councilman and recent conviction faced by a jury in the court of common pleas did not attend the council session Tuesday evening. The body planned to seek his resignation if he sat, but his seat remains until final sentencing. Other items included sewer petitions on Rush street and Waverly avenue, a Middle avenue dispute over assessment, and motions funding street cleaning, water, sidewalks, and other services. A bid call for $18,000 in municipal ponds was issued for Barber Asphalt payment, and other routine measures were approved.
William Hamilton longtime assistant engineer on the steamer in Elyvia has been appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Charles Goodspeed. The notice from the Board of Public Safety signed by Rose Moriarity, Clerk, states the appointment is to the fire department and will meet citizens approval.
Mayor Folger vetoed the council's salary ordinance saying the pay for city officials exceeds fair compensation. He argues the measure should be rejected entirely, with a veto message noting the city must economize and the mayor's own salary should be $1,000 rather than $1,300. The council may override at the next meeting.
John Wilson 35 laborer and Carrie Vogt 33 both of Lorain receive marriage licenses. Otto Dushenke 29 machinist and Pauline Gachorias 25 of Lorain and South Graf- are listed in the license notices.
A school vote shows 197 to 129 in favor of a single daily session with 63 parents yet to vote. Some prefer leaving the decision to the school board and last minute ballots are unlikely to change the result. Two one session proposals were offered, one allowing continuous operation without intermission.
