Belden Believed to Hide Light Oil Pool Near Belden Field

Special correspondence describes a new prospect near Belden where eleven wells have been drilled with expectant pumping from 5 to 100 barrels daily. James A. Davis, longtime Belden operator, pushed discovery of light oil in Berea grit southeast of Belden, with early wells on Law and April farms.

Ohio liquor law challenges reach U S Supreme Court

Washington May 22 The Reyman Brewing Co Wheeling seeks two appeals to the Supreme Court challenging the Dow and Haskell liquor laws of Ohio In ex parte Stevens the habeas corpus case questions the local option law while another suit seeks to stop Henry Buster Belmont County auditor from collecting the Dow tax Judge Ricks upheld the Haskell law Judge Thompson dissolved the injunction in the tax case

Noted expert touts Duck Pond as water reservoir

Mr Fulton official engineer of the State Sanitary Department inspects the dam at the steel plant with W E Brooks and F L Puller. He calls the Duck Pond one of the best natural reservoirs and says a 70,000,000 gallon storage basin could be built. He notes a city of 9,000 uses about 1,000,000 gallons daily and river water, if properly filtered, rivals lake water. He estimates enough water could last two years.

New brick and tile plant planned near Elyria

A new enterprise forms to manufacture brick tile and clay products with capital stock of 50000 and sufficient stock subscribed. The Manter and Andress plant on Chestnut Ridge will be acquired with work starting immediately. Elyria expects a model plant with future pottery and stoneware potential.

Judge Nye Rules on Chattel Mortgage Refiling

In the common pleas court Judge Nye issued a decision in The Westinghouse Co. v Slaughter et al that refiling affidavits must be attached to the mortgage itself. The ruling holds affidavits filed with the township clerk within one year suffice, even if not on the back of the mortgage, potentially easing renewal for mortgagors and protecting property against prolonged unfiled liens. Judges note the decision may stand on appeal and could impact mortgagors nationwide, avoiding disruption of secured property.
