The Center Foundation sank two inches into the mud, causing a crack that mortar cannot hide. Officials say the strain proves the bridge is unsafe and inflames public indignation. A city official labels the situation a "mean job" and calls for immediate action.
Controversy over delay and plan changes on the Washington avenue bridge escalates as the structure shows a two inch center sink and a clean crack in fresh mortar. Contractors cite possible faulty center pier, with inspectors and bond forfeiture potential pending a formal evaluation by city officials.
Four men charged with intoxication appeared before the judge in police court Saturday morning. The defendants were Jack Floyd William Miller Hugh Goodley and Sam Mayfield. Floyd paid his fine and costs and was released. The other three were committed.

Chief Detective William Whitney captured John alias Slim McPherson of Cleveland after a message from Chief Kohler. McPherson was sought in Cleveland for obtaining money under false pretenses and was tied to a charge deal. He lived in Flynn's, came here, and was arrested on Broad Street with a Cleveland officer taking him back last night.
Frank Nagy and John Bugadzsia formed a farming partnership on March 14 1906 at the Jaycex farm near Head Park. Nagy paid 141 dollars for implements but his partner forced him off the farm and Nagy asked the common pleas court to appoint a receiver.
Alexander Littleton of Marion Ohio sent word of illness from Lorain hospital but messages to his wife and others were delayed. His wife, alarmed by his silence, searched Elyria and Lorain with police help and located him Thursday at St Josephs hospital. He was moved to Elyria hospital that afternoon and is recovering well. Belmont Iron Works representative arrived in Flyta Monday to install the iron railing on the Washington avenue bridge and began work immediately.

Lorain resident Jordan of West Erie Avenue Lorain was aboard a railroad express wrecked at South Harriburg Thursday morning. Fifty killed scores injured. He had left Lorain last Saturday for business with a Philadelphia ship company later employed by the American Ship Building Company of Lorain.
County commissioners on Tuesday decided to levy assessments to improve the Avon ditch, a 13 mile long channel. Assessments range from 15 to 400 and will net about 3,000. They also defended to extend one and a half miles farther. A delegation of property owners appeared. a few complained of high assessments, but the great majority favored the project.
Four young Lorain residents were badly hurt in a Sunday runaway crash near West Broad Street and Lake Shore bridge. Midnie Jaques, 18, an apparent critical condition, with Josephine Platt, 18, and John H. Freeman, 24, also sustaining injuries. Charles G. Smith, 21, least injured, went home after treatment. An eyewitness said the rig toppled when a wheel hooked a track, sending the vehicle careening as frightened pedestrians fled.
The Garford Company, led by A. L. Garford of Elyria and backed by Cleveland capital, takes over the Federal Manufacturing Company assets and will produce automobile parts. Capitalized at 400000, it will focus on complete auto parts for sale separately or as complete chassis and emphasize applications of the automobile to business use, including parts for trucks drays and wagons.
The L and M Railway Co submits a contract for water for ten years at six cents per thousand cubic feet. Referred to city solicitor for legality. if approved, board of public service will adopt. This raises city water charges from 1400 to about 6000 dollars annually for the same service. The board plans to apply the rate to any large water user.
