Engineer Johann Fritz of the Lake Shore fast mail train was fatally injured near Saledo two miles before Milbury while the train was en route to Elyria. Fireman G Baton reported a possible hot box and Fritz’s skull was badly fractured after falling from the cab window as the train raced on to Lakeside hospital in Cleveland. Fritz, a longtime Elyria figure, was badly hurt and died shortly after at Lakeside hospital.

A letter found among DeWitts effects shows a 17 year old Oberlin College student seeking marriage with conditions and cautioning secrecy.
Lorain resident Wur Jones was declared insane by Judge Hinman and committed to Toledo State Hospital. In Alzen Hesse, a leading tradesman received twenty ten years for grave irreverence during a trial by reading a newspaper in court.
