A Western correspondent visits Charleston on March 8 describing Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie, the city’s postwar state, and social life. He notes narrow streets, water surrounding the city, a growing but divided population, and mixed race street life. The piece reflects pro slavery attitudes, war memory and local dispensary practices.
The Fisk Jubilee Singers will present a sacred concert tomorrow evening at seven at First Congregational to benefit Fisk University and colored education. Judge Webber freed him, then Miller was re arrested on the same charge, but disappeared before new papers could be served. John Burgman aged 44 and Hat Tae Wetzel aged 31 both of Avon were married at North Ridge on January 29 by Rev. M. Baker of St. Peter's Church. The event was noted in local marriage licenses records alongside names John F. Lang and Katherine Schneider. The entry appears in the town notices section.
Robert J Burdette gave a lecture titled Rainbow Ohagers at the First Congregational church in Oberlin Friday night. The auditorium was crowded and Burdette, though late, drew loud applause and delivered a benevolent humorous philosophy. The Pennsylvanian, born in 1844, has toured the world and built fame as a humorist and lecturer since 1876, recently returning from Europe and pledging to lecture the rest of his life.
Probate Court orders sale of Lomestead on Taylor Street in Wellington. Elizabeth Watterson Wellington is admitted to probate. A B Lambert named executor. Grandchildren Edna and Ina Lambert to receive 8100 each on reaching 18. Estate property and Lomestead allocated to Mrs. Willa Lambert. Bond of 4000 posted by Esther Cone and Htonsy Place. George Place named administrator for Caca gana Alger estate. DR Simmons is administrator of Frances M. Simmons estate.
Rochester residents note Mr G Rolfe Hag returned from Illinois and Miss Grave Miller from Columbus is at home with her mother. Dr RK Garrison of Cleveland came for a few days. Miss Jesse Chapman visits relatives at the eastern part of the estate. Mrs 19 Heifner is ill. Hiffis Campbell and Etya Wayler visit Mr and Mrs M Heifner at GC Peck's in Brighton. Mrs G Rolfe and son George were in town Saturday. Rose Cheat entertains her daughter Rose from Elrmia. People glad to see Ig Chamberlain in Rochester Friday night. Fred Roland returns from Colorado to visit cousin. Mrs Cora Bissel's house and contents burn. insurance status unknown.
West Ridge updates report injuries and illness from Mr. W G Sutliff and family, visitors from Oberlin and Cleveland, travel to funerals, and neighbors' gatherings. Local scenes include additions to homes, rheumatic ailments, and church preaching by Rev. Allen of Oberlin. Also listed are a 25 cent dozen of Navel oranges sale at B Starrs and a house for sale at 839 Dexter Street with nearby hospital grounds.

McEnroe and LaPorte are hailed as dancing wonders. The company plays the opera house each night next week except Friday with opening bill Oh Shadow Detective. Tickets are 10 20 and 30 cents, with matinee Saturday and a Ladies ticket offer for Monday night.
