Prison sentences handed to Lorain inmates and locals
Bert Hardy of Grafton pleaded guilty to selling liquor to a habitual alcoholic and received 26 days in jail and a $75 fine. Sheriff Warren sent John Judge to the penitentiary for one year for larceny. Peter Fay and James Ryan were taken to the Cleveland workhouse for 60 days and $495 costs each after pleading guilty to stealing an overcoat. John Miller appeared under habeas corpus for stealing pipe tongs, with Trad Buscher fined $3 and costs. Powell, Hotel Franklin proprietor, appeared briefly amid embezzlement cases to come, while preparations continue for the Lanky embezzlement trial and other hearings next week. The room hosted a social gathering with food, music, and games.

The Plain Dealer reports a six month push to operate 180 miles of suburban lines radiating from Cleveland including Berea Medina Chippewa Lake Wooster and an Oberlin Norwalk route. An Elyria central power house will supply most power with temporary facilities in Medina. Through cars to Norwalk via Elyria and Oberlin may start in May three hour Norwalk schedule. Wellington extension viewed positively though Wellington Ashland surveying finished.

William Lanky pleaded guilty to embezzlement from Joseph Glick of Lorain. He was fined 50 dollars and costs and sentenced to 25 days in the Cleveland workhouse. Witnesses contributed 2 dollars each to a fund for his wife, a generous gesture appreciated by the couple. Also note a local farm sale and a pancake flour advertisement fragment.

Bert Rogers Found Guilty in 1901 Grafton Robbery
Bert Rogers of Grafton was found guilty by a jury after deliberations from noon to eleven. The case involved a robbery at a mill office on November 1, 1901, with $17.90 taken. An alibi failed. witnesses testified for the prosecution. Also reported: a quiet wedding at the Spiegelberg home, two divorces granted, the burial of Mrs. Emma Bacon, and a party for Gerald and Josephine Martin with a large gathering and gifts.
