Dramatic Night on North Amherst Bridge Fire Paralyzes Tracks
An overhead bridge to North Amherst was set ablaze on Thursday night causing a partial collapse that toppled onto the US and M trains and halted traffic for about five hours. About thirty men, exhausted and soaked, faced the San Francisco police court as a chorus of song and sobs rose from the prisoners. A former forgery defendant in the dock sang, moving the judge to pause the proceedings and allow a lengthy musical interlude that ended with no fines or confinement.
