The Water Works Department aims to cut expenses to 12 0000 yearly and shows rising receipts. March receipts were 950, April 891, May 1,029 with plans to run the system through October. Projected income this year 25,000 and expenses 12,000 leaving 81,000 balance. Superintendent George Weller praised for department efficiency.
The Hut h school alumni association plans the Twenty seventh reunion at Elke hall Friday night with an orchestra, president’s welcome, Van Hoosen response, solo performances, in memoriam Henry Parker, business meeting, and recollections from 76 to 95. Also listed are duets and various songs, followed by local advertised clothing specials from The Biggs and Evarard Co.
Orson J. Humphrey sued Kuna M. Humphrey for 5000 alleging wrongful arrest to ruin his reputation. The jury deliberated Monday and Tuesday with no agreement as a verdict remained uncertain amid unclear court notes and puzzled witnesses.

William L Wallhead prominent brick manufacturer died Monday at his home on Winth Street after a twelve week illness from hardened arteries. He was sixty six, survived by wife and two daughters, and a son. Funeral Wednesday at 4 30 pm with private services and burial at Harmony Cemetery. Wallhead was a brick maker for nearly forty years, earlier in Avon and Elyria with eighteen years in Elyria.
A Sunday night brawl in Hunkyville between rival factions left a Hungarian with a broken arm. Police arrested one Hungarian for disorderly conduct. he was fined six dollars and costs on Tuesday. The fight centered on upholding participant honor amid ongoing community tensions.
G H Landers a saloonkeeper of 564 Lodi street faced a mayoral charge for striking a customer after a dispute over varnish. The complainant, painter G F Russell, testified he bought a drink and a confrontation over varnish led to the assault attempt. The case was postponed to request witnesses.
The Cherokee Indians and the Elyria Trolley League played before about 1200 spectators last night. It was a pitcher’s duel with Stoup of Elyria allowing four hits and thirteen strikeouts while Warhop of the Cherokees fanned thirteen and yielded one hit. A former Oberlin mail carrier, A F L Chancey, was fined and ordered to pay alimony totaling fifty dollars a month. his sentence suspended upon bond for fifteen dollars monthly payments over five years. Philip Hudwell, a colored resident, faced a support charge. ordered to pay two dollars weekly. He argued faithfulness mattered, but the court enforced legal duty to support.
A large rush filled Monday and Tuesday as all first floor and balcony seats sold out for the high school graduation exercises. Nearly all gallery seats were taken by Tuesday.
