Obituary of John C Biggs 1849 1908 Elyria native
John Charles Biggs born Welford England July 9 1849 died January 7 1908 at Soltiers Home Sandusky Ohio aged 63 5 13. Eldest son of Thomas and Frances Biggs he came to America in 1854 with family settling in Amberet and Pittafield Lorain County later in Elyria. Survived by four brothers and two sisters many in Ohio and Washington state. Civil War veteran wounded at Gettysburg reenlisted in Hancock's Veteran Corps serving until 1866. Worked farming then in Elyria newspaper agency for 23 years. Married Emma Park March 4 1869 at Ruggles Ohio who died six months before him. Five children survive. Funeral held at Grand Army Hall Elyria with GAR honor guard and church service. Body moved from Sandusky to Elyria for rites.
